Biblical Chronology

The Greek translation of the Old Testament Scriptures (the Septuagint or LXX) varied from the later Hebrew Masoretic text in certain ways. One significant difference involved the length of years since Creation given in the biblical genealogies, the Septuagint giving a longer and more accurate chronology. However, most of our English translations of the Old Testament rely upon the Hebrew Masoretic text that gives a shorter 6,000 year minimum figure for the years since Creation. The LXX would place Creation Week about 7,700 years ago and the Flood about 5,500 years ago. There is also the question of missing genealogies that would further extend the length of time since Creation.
